			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Marion Elizabeth (Uhlhorn)Anderson, age 85 of Mora, former operator of the New Sweden store, passed away on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, surrounded by loving family at First Light Health System in Mora. <span id="more-8121"></span></p>
<p><a href="http://gaylordhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Anderson-Marion-11.jpg"><img src="http://gaylordhub.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/Anderson-Marion-11.jpg" alt="Marion Anderson - 85" title="Anderson-Marion-11" width="135" height="187" class="alignleft size-full wp-image-8122" /></a>Memorial service was Sunday, May 8, 2011, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Mora with Rev. Dean Oelfke officiating. Burial was Mon., May 9 at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, Darfur. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice that supports those in need. </p>
<p>She was born on October 10, 1925, and graduated from Comfrey High School in 1943. She married Martin Uhlhorn on October 5, 1944. Her first child, Rachael, died due to a farm accident at the age of 18 months. Five sons were born into the family. Martin and Marion were farmers for some years, operated the New Sweden store for several years; and began employment with Fingerhut in 1958. The family moved to Windom in 1966, where she was a supervisor with Fingerhut until it closed in 1979. </p>
<p>She was the first woman elected to the Windom City Council. She ran for state representative, and she had several other jobs including working for Congressman Vin Weber. </p>
<p>In 1983 she married Vince Anderson of Westbrook. In September 2010 she moved to Eastwood Senior Living in Mora to be close to family. Marion love to read, bowling, card games, and Scrabble, to have conversation, and making quilts for grandchildren. Marion was blessed with many friendships through the years. She was a faithful believer in Jesus Christ, Our Savior, throughout life. When asked what she would like as an obituary she responded “that I was born, lived, and died.”  She will be remembered for her wisdom, compassion, loving heart, and strong spirit.</p>
<p>She is survived by sons, Maurice (Lori) Uhlhorn of Layton, Utah, Donald (Robin Hanson) Uhlhorn of Mora, Neil (Camille) Uhlhorn of Cliffwood, New Jersey; daughters-in-law, Suzie Uhlhorn of Chandler, Arizona, Mary Uhlhorn of Little Falls; 11 grandchildren, Martin (Brandi) Uhlhorn, Deanne (David) Olson, Rachael (Sean) Witkin, Laurel Chose, Beth Uhlhorn, Joseph Uhlhorn, Michael (Debra) Uhlhorn, Jeremy (Tiffany) Uhlhorn, Anna (Roy) Hoiland, Christopher Uhlhorn, Danielle Uhlhorn; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Irene Lutterman; brothers, Willard (Sarah) Gersch, Edward (Helen) Gersch; sisters-in-law, Betty Gersch and Martha Lindquist. </p>
<p>She is preceded in death by parents, Edward and Katherine Gersch; siblings, Elmer and Lawrence Gersch; husband, Martin Uhlhorn; children, Rachael Ann Uhlhorn, Leon Uhlhorn, Howard Uhlhorn; and second husband, Vincent Anderson.</p>

<p>Paul John Podratz was born on November 3, 1911, in Transit Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. He was the son of Fred and Anna (Rose) Podratz. He was baptized at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township, Sibley County, and was later confirmed in his faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord, where he remained a member until his death. His life revolved around his faith.</p>
<p>Paul was united in marriage to Viola Franke on September 9, 1937, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. The marriage was blessed with two children, Janet and Ronald. Paul and Viola lived on a farm when they were first married. That farm is now Gaylord’s West Addition. Paul built a home in Gaylord in 1948 and bought farms west of Gaylord. He continued to farm until 1974 when he retired. He also owned a trucking business from 1948 &#8211; 1970. Paul and Viola shared 73 years of marriage until Viola died on November 13, 2010.</p>
<p>Even in retirement, Paul continued to be a proud farmer. He was always interested in the markets and how the crops were doing. He also enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and reading newspapers. Paul was an avid baseball fan. He would always know whom the Minnesota Twins were playing and all of the player’s stats. Paul was always interested in the affairs of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He loved spending time with them.</p>
<p>When Viola lived at the Good Samaritan Home in Arlington, Paul would take the Trailblazer from Gaylord to Arlington to visit her. When Fairview Assisted Living opened, Paul moved there and was just down the hall from Viola. He eventually entered the Good Samaritan Center and was there until his passing. Paul enjoyed playing Bingo, attending church services and the other activities that the Good Samaritan Center held. After Viola died in November, Paul was lonesome and felt he had no more to do on earth. He wanted to go be with Viola in Heaven and live with God.</p>
<p>Paul is survived by his daughter, Janet Schultz of Henderson; son, Ronald Podratz and his wife, Dody of Shoreview; grandchildren, Lori Zimmerman and her husband, Mark of Cleveland, Julie Wirth and her husband, Kelly of Frazee, and Timothy Schultz of Henderson; great-grandsons, SPC Jack Zimmerman, United States Army, Brooke Army Medical Center, San Antonio, TX, and PFC Andrew Zimmerman serving in the United States Army at Fort Hood, TX; step-grandchildren, Julie Carlson and her husband, Myron of Milaca, and Michelle LeGault and her husband, Michael Gaertner of Atlanta, GA; step-great-grandchildren, Jenna Carlson and Logan Carlson; sisters-in-law, Lily Franke of Gaylord, and Clella Franke of Lafayette; brother-in-law, Rev. Ervin Franke of Spring Valley; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.</p>
<p>Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Anna Podratz; Wife, Viola Podratz; brothers, Charles Podratz and Frank Podratz; sisters, Alvina Harbarth and Lydia Pitzner; son-in-law, William Schultz; brothers-in-law, Raymond Franke, William Franke, and Roland Peterson; sisters-in-law, Elmira Peterson and Irene Franke.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Dale B. Currier, age 72, passed away on April 29th, 2011 from cancer in Decatur, GA at the East Lake Arbor Hospice Facility. <span id="more-8116"></span></p>
<p>Dale was born in Nicollet on November 28, 1938 to Fred and Orda Currier of New Sweden. Following his graduation from Gaylord High School, he entered the U.S. Army at Fort Bragg, NC where he met and married Gloria Faye Barefoot. They moved to Minneapolis. He graduated from The Dunwoody Institute. Dale owned and operated Currier’s Plumbing and Heating. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his cabin on Ten Mile Lake, Dalton. </p>
<p>Dale is survived by two daughters, Carrie Schow of Minneapolis, Kimberly Ann Currier of Duluth, GA; two grandchildren, Stephanie and Axel; two great-grandchildren; one brother, Gerald Currier and two sisters, Bonnie Meyer and Joanne Ranta. </p>
<p>A private graveside memorial service with military honors will be held at Fort Snelling.</p>

<p>Paul Orville Pioske was born January 26, 1946, in Michigan City, Indiana. He was the son of Gordon and Marguerite (Hill) Pioske. Paul was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in his faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gaylord. He received his education at a country school near Trinity Lutheran Church and was a graduate of Le Sueur High School, Class of 1963. He was a member of the United States Army Reserve from 1963-1969.</p>
<p>On February 3, 1968, Paul was united in marriage to Judy Kraemer at First Lutheran Church in Glencoe. This marriage was blessed with five children, Lori, Scot, Jodi, Michael and Kati. Paul and Judy resided in Le Sueur, Kelso Township and later moved to Gaylord.</p>
<p>Paul farmed and drove milk truck for over 25 years. In 1996, he found his passion for driving bus, which continued to do until he retired in 2010. Paul was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Arlington.</p>
<p>Paul enjoyed meeting and talking to new people, coin collecting and playing cards. He loved to travel, especially to Arizona. Paul cherished the time he spent with his family and friends. He especially enjoyed telling stories to his grandchildren. </p>
<p>Paul is survived by his wife, Judy Pioske of Gaylord; daughters, Lori (Ryan Ochs) Rennecke of Chaska, Jodi (Jody Kruize) Overson of Barrett, Kati Vos and her husband, Patrick of Maplewood; sons, Scot Pioske and his wife, Sharylyn of Fairfax, Michael Pioske and his wife, Gloria of New Prague; grandchildren, Lance Cpl. Tylor Johnson, Connor Rennecke, Morgan, Parker, Will and Dana Pioske, Carter, Braden and Isaac Overson, Emily, Alex and Allison Pioske; mother, Marguerite Pioske of Gaylord; brothers, David Pioske and his wife, Starla of Le Sueur, Lee Pioske and his wife Angelita of Phoenix, AZ; Many other relatives and friends. </p>
<p>Paul is preceded in death by his father, Gordon Pioske.</p>

<p>Hilda Bertha Grochow was born on January 1, 1917, in Dryden Township, Sibley County. She was the only child of Albert and Lillian (Schulz) Grochow. Hilda was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township. She received her education at Mountville Country School. Hilda was a life long Gaylord area resident.</p>
<p>Hilda helped her parents with the farm work. She had also worked at Big Stone, Inc. in Arlington, and Hand’s, Inc. in Winthrop. In the early 1950s she moved into Gaylord and in 1999 moved to the Gaylord Homes.</p>
<p>Hilda was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord.</p>
<p>Hilda volunteered at the Senior Dining, working in the kitchen and serving food and belonged to the Senior Citizen’s Club. She enjoyed all types of gardening, playing Bingo, and going out to eat with friends. </p>
<p>Hilda is survived by numerous cousins and friends.</p>
<p>Hilda was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Lillian Grochow.</p>

Bradley Peterson officiating. Military honors were provided by Harmon – Harris American Legion Post 314. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at 12:00 (noon) Saturday in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery.</p>
<p>Steve was born on December 31, 1961 to Fred and Ruth (Klages) Asmus in Gaylord. His childhood was spent in Gaylord on his family farm. He and his sisters enjoyed raised chickens and dairy cows.</p>
<p>Steve served in the U.S. Army in Texas and Germany. Upon his return he worked in the Gaylord area, and in Mound at Toro. In 1990 Steve found his calling as a professional truck driver. He had driven over two million miles and received numerous safety awards. </p>
<p>Steve loved his motorcycles and snowmobiles. In 1992 he found the love of his life, Stacey Anderson. They were off to Sturgis and many rallies and events with close friends. Steve and Stacey enjoyed many snowmobile trips with friends and family. On October 19, 1996 they were married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wheeler, and were off to Sturgis for their honeymoon.</p>
<p>The arrival of their son Zach made their family complete. Steve and Zach enjoyed many hours together in the shop working on various projects. Zack learned how to fix anything that breaks. Steve enjoyed raising chickens, pheasants, and ducks. With his family he cut firewood, loved 4-wheeling, mud bogging, camping, campfires, fishing, and deer hunting. He was involved with his son’s Cub Scouts, school activities, and sporting events.</p>
<p>Steve was very social and made friends everywhere he went. Stacey would often complain that if she sent him to the grocery store he wouldn’t be home for hours because he would visit with friends or stop and help someone out. Stacey was particularly happy that Steve loved to cook. Steve and Zack enjoyed making Maple Syrup with their homemade taps. Steve had many, many friends but his best friends of all were his son and his wife.</p>
<p>Steve is survived by his wife, Stacey and son, Zachariah. His parents, Fred and Ruth Asmus of Gaylord; his sisters, Barb Asmus and Audrey Mack-Stein; nephews, Justin (Shawna) Mack, Aaron (Erica) Mack, and Nathan Stein; great nieces and nephews, Lorelai and Alex Mack, Alexis and Skyler Mack; mother-in-law Nelda (Anderson) Garnett-Prince, sister-in-law Tracey (James) Frassel, and nephew Justin Anderson, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.</p>
<p>Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, baby sister, and father-in-law, Glen W. Anderson.</p>

Bradley Peterson officiating. Military honors were provided by Harmon – Harris American Legion Post 314. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at 12:00 (noon) Saturday in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery.</p>
<p>Steve was born on December 31, 1961 to Fred and Ruth (Klages) Asmus in Gaylord. His childhood was spent in Gaylord on his family farm. He and his sisters enjoyed raised chickens and dairy cows.</p>
<p>Steve served in the U.S. Army in Texas and Germany. Upon his return he worked in the Gaylord area, and in Mound at Toro. In 1990 Steve found his calling as a professional truck driver. He had driven over two million miles and received numerous safety awards. </p>
<p>Steve loved his motorcycles and snowmobiles. In 1992 he found the love of his life, Stacey Anderson. They were off to Sturgis and many rallies and events with close friends. Steve and Stacey enjoyed many snowmobile trips with friends and family. On October 19, 1996 they were married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wheeler, and were off to Sturgis for their honeymoon.</p>
<p>The arrival of their son Zach made their family complete. Steve and Zach enjoyed many hours together in the shop working on various projects. Zack learned how to fix anything that breaks. Steve enjoyed raising chickens, pheasants, and ducks. With his family he cut firewood, loved 4-wheeling, mud bogging, camping, campfires, fishing, and deer hunting. He was involved with his son’s Cub Scouts, school activities, and sporting events.</p>
<p>Steve was very social and made friends everywhere he went. Stacey would often complain that if she sent him to the grocery store he wouldn’t be home for hours because he would visit with friends or stop and help someone out. Stacey was particularly happy that Steve loved to cook. Steve and Zack enjoyed making Maple Syrup with their homemade taps. Steve had many, many friends but his best friends of all were his son and his wife.</p>
<p>Steve is survived by his wife, Stacey and son, Zachariah. His parents, Fred and Ruth Asmus of Gaylord; his sisters, Barb Asmus and Audrey Mack-Stein; nephews, Justin (Shawna) Mack, Aaron (Erica) Mack, and Nathan Stein; great nieces and nephews, Lorelai and Alex Mack, Alexis and Skyler Mack; mother-in-law Nelda (Anderson) Garnett-Prince, sister-in-law Tracey (James) Frassel, and nephew Justin Anderson, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.</p>
<p>Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, baby sister, and father-in-law, Glen W. Anderson.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Kenneth W. Bull, age 89, of Gaylord, died at his home, Saturday, April 16 2011. <span id="more-8089"></span></p>
<p>Memorial service will be held Saturday, April 30, 11:00 a.m. at the United Church of Christ in Gaylord. Interment will be in High Island Cemetery, New Auburn. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the family.</p>
<p>Kenneth Wayne Bull was born June 19, 1921 in Wells. The son of Allen and Luretta (Crowell) Bull, Ken was the eldest of four children. Ken was educated at Gaylord High School and graduated in 1939. Following service in the Merchant Marines, he furthered his education at the University of Minnesota and the St. Paul College of Law.</p>
<p>Ken was united in marriage to Jeanne Anna Utendorfer on September 23, 1942, in Gaylord. Following WWII, they lived their entire life in Gaylord. They had five children, and shared 63 years of marriage until Jeanne’s death in 2006. Ken was active in Rotary and the state judiciary and served as District Court Judge of the First Judicial District until his retirement at age 66. Ken loved to hunt, fish and travel, but his true passion was golf.</p>
<p>Ken was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and was blessed with ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.</p>
<p>When Ken needed help with his daily care, he moved to the Golden Living Center in Franklin. As his health declined further, he went back home to Gaylord, and under the care of home hospice spent his last days there.</p>
<p>Ken was preceded in death by his sister Mildred (age 3 years), his parents, and his wife Jeanne.</p>
<p>He is survived by his five children, Nancy Bull  of Randolph, Jay Bull and wife Cheryl, Blaine,  James  Bull of Rochester, Rhonda Sonnek of Rosemount, and Julie Fuller of New Richland. He is also survived by his brother Gerald (Gretchen) Bull of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., and his sister, Trellis (Louis) Sylvester of Coos Bay, Ore., ten grandchildren and eight great- grandchildren, nieces and nephew.</p>

Kube, age 79 of Arlington died Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Minnesota Valley Health Center in Le Sueur, of heart and kidney failure. <span id="more-8087"></span>Funeral service was Wed., Apr. 20, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church in Arlington. Lois will be laid to rest in Arlington Public Cemetery at a later date.</p>
<p>Lois was born on the family homestead in Green Isle Township on June 12, 1931, to Bernard and Elsa (Laabs) Kurtzweg. She became ill, and on June 29th, Rev. Heidmann performed an emergency baptism. She attended District #66 Parochial School, and was confirmed by Rev. Bradtke on March 25, 1945.</p>
<p>Lois was united in marriage to Melvin L. Kube on September 8, 1951, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Arlington, with Rev. Bradtke performing the ceremony.</p>
<p>The couple made their home on the Kube homestead in Arlington Township, where Lois helped wherever she was needed. Melvin was called home on June 17, 2005. Lois was able to remain on the farm with the help of family and neighbors until 2010, when she moved into an apartment in Arlington.</p>
<p>Lois is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Lawrence) Crawford of Arlington, Wanda (Hal) Jaster of St. Peter, sons James (Bonnie) Kube of Arlington, Gary (Linda) of Norwood Young America, David (Kari) of Norwood Young America, Timothy (Juanita) of Arlington, and Gregory (Penny) of Norwood Young America. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Heidi (Charles) Schultz, Melissa (Darryl) Quirum, Nathan (Jessica) Kube, Joseph (Cassie) Kube, Tiffany (Randy) Andreson, Kimberly (Dennis) Braun, Heather Kube, Laura Kube, and Nicole Kube, Jesse (Tiffany) Kube, Adam (Crystal) Kube, September Kube, Miranda Kube and special friend Cory Uecker, Paul Kube, Thomas Kube and Elyse Kube. Lois is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ethan Schultz, Kylie, Kendahl and Kelsey Andresen, Keira and Aiden Asmus, Austin, Alexis and Jordyn Kube, and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by a brother, Delroy Kurtzweg. </p>
<p>Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Kube; her grandson, William Allen Kube; and her parents.</p>

The Rev. Bill Nelsen officiated.</p>

<p>Linda Rene (Luckow) Tiegs was born on November 12, 1949, in Gaylord. She was the daughter of Wallace and Meta (Trout) Luckow. Linda was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth, both at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Linda received her education in Gaylord.</p>
<p>Linda was a long time resident of Gaylord and in 2003 she moved into the Durham Apartments in Mankato. She suffered a stroke at the age of 51.</p>
<p>Linda had been employed at Fingerhut in Gaylord and Hands, Inc. in Winthrop. She was a loving mother and homemaker.</p>
<p>Linda enjoyed dancing, listening to music, going for drives, out to dinner with family and friends, drawing, fabric work, pressing flowers, shopping, playing cards, collecting blown glass, and she loved movies. She had a great sense of humor, was caring and would give her last dollar to anyone who needed it. She was known as “Ma” to everyone. She was a great listener and anyone could come to her for advice. Her favorite saying was “Things had to get worse before they get better.” Linda cherished her family and wanted to be a part of their life. For the past three years, she had her cockatiel, Radio. She loved teaching Radio words and taking of care of her “baby.” She loved taking care of and watching her grandson, Mac.</p>
<p>Linda passed away on Saturday, April 16, 2011, at Immanuel St. Joseph’s Hospital in Mankato at the age of 61 years. Blessed be her memory.</p>
<p>Linda is survived by her children, Troy Tiegs and his fiancée, Kelly Schaetzer of Green Bay, WI, and Rena Tiegs of North Mankato; grandson, Mac; brother, Bob Luckow and his wife, Joyce of Oak Park; step-father, Harvey Doerr of Gaylord; father of the children, Jerry Tiegs of Glencoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.</p>
<p>Linda was preceded in death by her Parents, Wallace and Meta Luckow.</p>
