Memorial Day Programs

Traditional Memorial Day programs are being planned in Gaylord and New Auburn.

Gaylord
Gaylord’s Manthey-Asmus American Legion Post and Auxiliary will lead the Memorial Day program in Gaylord. The program will be held at the Veterans’ Memorial in the City Park at 10 a.m.

The public is invited to attend. Bring your own lawn chairs.

The Rev. Bill Nelsen of St. Paul’s and Trinity Lutheran Churches will be the featured speaker.

The late Kenny Kirsch will receive a certificate for 50 years of membership in the American Legion. Kirsch qualified for the certificate prior to his death.

The Sibley East Junior High School band will play patriotic selections.

The Ladies Auxiliary will lay a wreath at the base of the Veterans’ memorial.

In case of inclement weather, the Memorial Day observance will be held in the Legion Auditorium.

Prior to the Gaylord program, Memorial Day observances will be held by the Gaylord squad at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery at 9 a.m. and Norwegian Grove Cemetery at 9:30 a.m.

New Auburn
New Auburn VFW Post 7266 and its Ladies Auxiliary will lead the Memorial Day program at 11 a.m. at High Island Cemetery. Those attending are asked to bring lawn chairs.

V.F.W. Post Commander Dan Moore will give a welcome, and Anthony Deno will given an invocation.

The Memorial Day message will be given by Pastor Dan Buendorf of Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn.

Musical selections will be played by Glencoe-Silver Lake High School students.

A symbolic tribute will be given by VFW Post Members and the wreath will be placed by Phyllis Schwanke, Auxiliary president. A roll call of deceased veterans will be read.

A military tribute will be provided by the VFW Rifle Squad, and taps will be played by GSL High School students.

A potluck will be held at noon at the New Auburn City Hall. The public is invited.
