Steven Fredrick Asmus, 49, of Wheeler, WI passed away suddenly Sunday April 17, 2011.

Steven Asmus - 49Funeral services were Sat., April 23, 2011 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wheeler, WI, with Rev. Bradley Peterson officiating. Military honors were provided by Harmon – Harris American Legion Post 314. Burial of the cremated remains will take place at 12:00 (noon) Saturday in Our Savior’s Lutheran Cemetery.

Steve was born on December 31, 1961 to Fred and Ruth (Klages) Asmus in Gaylord. His childhood was spent in Gaylord on his family farm. He and his sisters enjoyed raised chickens and dairy cows.

Steve served in the U.S. Army in Texas and Germany. Upon his return he worked in the Gaylord area, and in Mound at Toro. In 1990 Steve found his calling as a professional truck driver. He had driven over two million miles and received numerous safety awards.

Steve loved his motorcycles and snowmobiles. In 1992 he found the love of his life, Stacey Anderson. They were off to Sturgis and many rallies and events with close friends. Steve and Stacey enjoyed many snowmobile trips with friends and family. On October 19, 1996 they were married at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Wheeler, and were off to Sturgis for their honeymoon.

The arrival of their son Zach made their family complete. Steve and Zach enjoyed many hours together in the shop working on various projects. Zack learned how to fix anything that breaks. Steve enjoyed raising chickens, pheasants, and ducks. With his family he cut firewood, loved 4-wheeling, mud bogging, camping, campfires, fishing, and deer hunting. He was involved with his son’s Cub Scouts, school activities, and sporting events.

Steve was very social and made friends everywhere he went. Stacey would often complain that if she sent him to the grocery store he wouldn’t be home for hours because he would visit with friends or stop and help someone out. Stacey was particularly happy that Steve loved to cook. Steve and Zack enjoyed making Maple Syrup with their homemade taps. Steve had many, many friends but his best friends of all were his son and his wife.

Steve is survived by his wife, Stacey and son, Zachariah. His parents, Fred and Ruth Asmus of Gaylord; his sisters, Barb Asmus and Audrey Mack-Stein; nephews, Justin (Shawna) Mack, Aaron (Erica) Mack, and Nathan Stein; great nieces and nephews, Lorelai and Alex Mack, Alexis and Skyler Mack; mother-in-law Nelda (Anderson) Garnett-Prince, sister-in-law Tracey (James) Frassel, and nephew Justin Anderson, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, baby sister, and father-in-law, Glen W. Anderson.
