Raymond Poquette – 82

Raymond “Ray” Poquette, Jr. age 82, of Gaylord, passed away Wed., Mar. 2, 2011, at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in Arlington. Memorial Services were Thurs., Mar. 17, 2011, at the United Church of Christ in Gaylord with the Rev. Hank Campbell officiating. Interment is in the Gaylord Municipal Cemetery. Military Honors by the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Post #433.

Raymond Poquette - 82Raymond “Ray” James Poquette, Jr. was born on January 22, 1929, in Minneapolis. He was the son of Raymond, Sr. and Dorothy (Bing) Poquette. Ray was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. Ray was a 1947 graduate of Minneapolis High School. Ray resided in Minneapolis until 1948, when he moved to Gaylord.

Ray was united in marriage to Lois Beihoffer on January 26, 1957, at the United Church of Christ in Gaylord. This union was blessed with three children. Ray and Lois shared 48 years of marriage before Lois passed away on June 7, 2005. The couple made their home in Gaylord.

Ray owned and operated Poquette Chevrolet and Poquette Implement in Gaylord from 1970 to 1987. He took over the business from his father, who had started the Chevrolet dealership here in 1948 and expanded to include Massey Ferguson equipment in 1958. Ray farmed as well for many years.

Ray was a member of the United Church of Christ in Gaylord.

Ray enjoyed deer hunting and fishing in Montana, the Northwest Territory in Canada and in Michigan. He also enjoyed spending time at his parent’s lake home on Big Sandy Lake near McGregor. Ray loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren.

Ray is survived by his children, Jim Poquette and his wife, Terri of Le Sueur, Todd Poquette and his special friend, Kristal Bergseid of Hutchinson, and Lisa Poquette-Phelps and her husband, Bill of Rio Rico, AZ; four grandchildren, Benjamin and Samantha Poquette and Langdon and Zafare Poquette; sister, Linda Flick and her husband, Jim of Wichita, KS; sisters-in-law, Janet Poquette; Dorothy Heuer of Colusa, CA, and Virginia Simondet and her husband, Norm of Mound; brothers-in-law, Jerry Sander of Green Valley, AZ, Dale Beihoffer of Aiken, Warren Beihoffer of Windom, and Lowell Beihoffer and his wife, Cathy of Becker; nieces, Nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond, Sr. and Dorothy Poquette; wife, Lois Poquette; sister, LaVonne Sander; brother, Gene Poquette; sisters-in-law, Kay Beihoffer and Dorothy Beihoffer.
