Victor Senske, age 90 of Winthrop, passed away Wed., Feb. 16, 2011, at the Winthrop Good Samaritan Center in Winthrop. Funeral Services were held Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord, with interment in the Winthrop Cemetery. Military Honors were by the Winthrop Honor Guard. The Rev. Bill Nelsen officiated.
Victor Henry Senske was born on July 27, 1920, in Penn Township, McLeod County. He was the son of William and Augusta (Tessmer) Senske. Victor was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn. He received his education at country school.
Victor entered active military service in the U.S. Army on September 10, 1942, and served his country during World War II in Europe and Africa. He received the Good Conduct Medal, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Service Medal, five Overseas Service Bars, and the Combat Infantry Badge. Victor achieved the rank of Squad Sergeant. He received his Honorable Discharge on October 31, 1945, at Fort McCoy, Wisconsin.
On May 9, 1948, Victor was united in marriage to Dorothy Just at the Covenant Church in Winthrop. After their marriage, the couple resided in Bismarck Township, where they began to farm. He was the maintenance/grounds keeper at the Winthrop Golf Course for more than 20 years, retiring in 2002. Victor and Dorothy shared 62 years of marriage and were blessed with four children.
Victor was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Gaylord, where he served on the church council.
Victor enjoyed working with the D.A.V., puzzles, completing 100’s, listening to old time music, playing 500 rummy and watching baseball games. He also loved spending time with his family, especially the little ones.
Victor is survived by his wife, Dorothy Senske of Winthrop; children, Bruce Senske and his wife, Muriel of Darwin, Linda Miller and her husband, Gene of Rochester, Thomas Senske and his wife, Sandi of Glencoe, and Susan Nelson and her husband, Denny of Darwin; grandchildren, Lisa Bloom and Lori Trick, Joshua Jensen, Emily Kosmala, Erin Reynolds, Annie, Rachael and Laura Senske, Ashley Muchow and Dustin Nelson; great-grandchildren, Moriah, Liam, Aidan, and Cooper Jensen, Meghan and Aleksander Kosmala, Marley Senske, Orrie Besmehn, Summer Blazinski, Reagan and Isaiah Muchow, and Levi and Brody Nelson; sisters, Delores Remus of Winthrop, Lydia Uecker of Gaylord, and Bernice Wieshert of Glencoe; brothers, Willmar Senske and his wife, Myrtice of Watertown; sisters-in-law, Irene Senske of Gaylord, Phyllis Senske of Glencoe, Virginia Anderson of Forest Lake, Minnie Trebelhorn of Winthrop, and MaryAnn Palmer of Brookings, SD; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Victor was preceded in death by his parents, William and Augusta Senske; sister, Hertha Peterson; and brothers, Erwin Senske, Alvin Senske, William Senske, and Marvin Senske.
