Marion Bernstein, age 81, of Green Isle, passed away Tues., Feb. 8, 2011, at the Arlington Good Samaritan Center in Arlington. Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Fri., Feb. 11, 2011, at Egesdal Funeral Home in Gaylord, with interment in St. John’s Cemetery of New Rome, Kelso Township, Sibley County, Minnesota. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. The Rev. Paul Baker will officiate.
Marion Lazetta (Prieve) Bernstein was born on March 13, 1929, in Hutchinson. She was the daughter of Helmuth and Rose (Froemming) Prieve. Marion was baptized as an infant and was later confirmed in her faith as a youth. She received her education in Hutchinson and was a 1946 graduate of the Hutchinson High School. Marion furthered her education at the Mankato State Teacher’s College. Marion taught at country schools for 10 years in the Hutchinson area. After her marriage, she taught elementary school in Arlington.
On June 4, 1965, Marion was united in marriage to William Bernstein by the Rev I.E. Kottke at the Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. After their marriage the couple lived in Kelso Township for a short time. They moved to rural Green Isle, where they purchased a farm. This marriage was blessed with two children. Marion and William shared 40 years of marriage, before William passed away on September 11, 2005.
Marion enjoyed gardening, raising flowers and baking for family.
Marion is survived by her, son, Lee Bernstein of Green Isle; brother-in-law, Floyd Bernstein and his wife, Helen of Gaylord; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents, Helmuth and Rose Prieve; husband, William Bernstein; a daughter in infancy; and brother, Alvin Prieve.
