Corrine J. Uecker, age 71, of Gaylord, passed away Thursday, January 20, 2011, at Oak Terrace Health Care Center in Gaylord, after a lengthy battle with cancer. Funeral Services were held Monday, January 24, 2011, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, Dryden Township, Sibley County, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Harold Storm officiated.
Corrine Johanna (Hiller) Uecker was born on August 22, 1939, in Mankato. She was the daughter of Paul and Leona (Stuemke) Hiller. She was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. She attended St. John Lutheran School in Good Thunder and was a 1957 graduate of Good Thunder High School. She attended Northwest Institute of Medical Technology in Minneapolis, graduating in 1960.
On April 7, 1961, Corrine married Henry L. Uecker at St. John Lutheran Church in Good Thunder. They made their home in Gaylord. She operated Corrine’s Ceramic Cellar in the basement of her home for many years. Corrine and Henry shared 36 years of marriage before Henry passed away on May 9, 1997. They were blessed with two sons.
Corrine worked as a medical technician (lab and x-ray) for many area medical facilities including the Gaylord Community Hospital, Arlington Municipal Hospital, and the Glencoe Medical Clinic until her retirement in 1999.
Corrine was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Mountville, where she was a former circle coordinator and member of the choir. She was a member of the Manthey-Asmus American Legion Auxiliary, a former Cub Scout leader, formerly played softball, and league bowling member.
She enjoyed playing cards and gaming, reading, traveling, crafts, gardening, canning, fishing, hunting, camping, music, and wintering in Arizona. She especially loved spending time with her family and friends.
Corrine became a resident of Oak Terrace Health Care Center on January 3, 2011.
Corrine is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Joanne Uecker and Paul and Lisa Uecker, all of Gaylord; grandchildren, Tanya Johnson and her husband, Matthew of Lakeville, Nathaniel Uecker of Chaska, Amanda and Brandon Uecker of Gaylord; sister and brother-in-law, Audre and LuVern Quandt of Rochester; step-brother, Charles (Mac) and Barbara McKnight of Trinidad, CO; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Milton and Ruth Uecker of Glencoe, Milo and Jackie Uecker of Bird Island, Rubie Uecker of Gaylord, Lydia Uecker of Gaylord, and Bernette Uecker of Green Isle; aunt, Rosella Stuemke of Mankato; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Hiller, Leona (Stuemke) Hiller McKnight; husband, Henry L. Uecker; step-father, Milton (Mac) McKnight; step-sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Ken Pope; brothers-in-law, Orville Uecker, Ruben Uecker, Wallace Uecker, and LeRoy Uecker; sister-in-law, Carol Uecker; nephews, Ronald and David Uecker, and Rob McKnight; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anna and Henry F. Uecker.
