Sibley East Activities Director Randy Walsh recently reported that the number of students participating in sports has been “holding steady” the past three years.
Walsh provided a report to school board members which broke down, by grade, how many students are participating in each sport.
The biggest jump in participation last season was in Track and Field. A total of 74 boys and girls participated in track in 2009-2010, 19 more than the previous year.
Football and baseball saw jumps of nine participants last season. Other sports with increases in numbers included tennis, cross country, golf, boys’ basketball and wrestling.
The 2010-2011 Sibley East sports season will kick off next week with preseason drills for football, volleyball, tennis and cross country.
Sibley East’s tennis team will kick off its 2010 campaign at the Glencoe-Silver Lake Invite on August 24th.
The volleyball Wolverines will open their season at Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop on August 30th. Sibley East’s football team will open the season on Friday, September 3rd, at home, against Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop.
