Tournament coordinators reported that the inaugural Sibley East Booster Club golf tournament proved successful and plans are to make it an annual event.
Thirteen, three-person teams, played in an 18-hole scramble event Saturday at the Winthrop golf course.
The first place team, with a ten-under par 62, included Rick Koepp, Brian Koepp and Randy Koepp.
A team which included Steve Nesvig and Robbie Nesvig, a pair of Sibley East graduates, also shot 62 but finished second via a tie-breaker. That team also included Blu Silberhorn who won the tournament’s long-drive contest with a 300+ yard smash on hole number three.
Steady play enabled Team Administration to finish third in the tournament. Combining for a best shot score of 63 was the squad of Jim Amsden (Senior High Principal), Steve Harter (Jr. High Principal) and Steve Jones (Superintendent).
Teams chosen for prizes included: Mike Neiert, Tyler Gasow and Phil Grochow; Curt Erickson, Don Sauter and Jim Landaas.
Lorie Wood won the longest drive and closest to the pin contests for the women players. Randy Koepp was the winner in the longest putt event.
The Koepps and Nesvigs were among the teams winning skins. Also getting a skin was the team of Tom Nesvig, Daryl Husfeldt and Bruce Hahn.
Price winners in the putting contest included: Jim Landaas (Twins tickets), Brian Koepp (John Green print), Tyler Petzel (EJ’s Bar & Grill certificate), Doug Flieth (hybrid golf club) and Forrest Bostelman (sleeve of golf balls).
More than 60 businesses or individuals helped sponsor the first annual Sibley East Booster Club tournament. The event raised approximately $2,000 for the club, according to tournament coordinator Mike Feterl.
Tournament sponsors will be recognized in a Thank You scheduled to be published next week.
