Is it in Sibley East’s best interest to operate the swimming pool in Arlington in June, July and August?
That is the question facing Sibley East after learning last month that the City of Arlington would no longer provide $20,000/year to help pay for the summer swimming program.
Superintendent Stephen Jones, School Board member Tim Dolan, fiscal affairs officer Michelle Dahn, pool manager Rene Moriarty recently met with Arlington’s mayor and city administrator. The City of Arlington views the $20,000 cut as permanent.
Moriarty has been directed to look at other facilities to see what programs are offered in September through May, which would fill a curricular need. Jones anticipated that a report would be given at the January school board meeting.
Gaylord’s new outdoor aquatic center, which was approved by Gaylord voters in March, is expected to be operational next summer.
