Gaylord’s Economic Develop-ment Authority (EDA) is expecting to find out later this month whether or not a local company is interested in purchasing the Entegris building in the City’s industrial park.
Chuck Klimmek, president of the Gaylord EDA, reported at Monday’s meeting that a proposal for the building from an unnamed local company was expected in a week to 10 days. Another party is also interested in the building for a start-up business, he said. Klimmek hopes to have more information at the August meeting.
Work is still underway to finalize the proposed lease and purchase price for the Ibberson building in the industrial park. The lease for the building expired several years ago, but the City is continuing to receive lease payments. An option for the outright purchase of the building will also be provided.
In other business, the EDA:
• Learned that the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors has agreed to work together toward revitalizing downtown Gaylord. More discussions will take place after the City’s Eggstravaganza celebration in mid August.
• Was updated that the Housing Task Force is working to establish a working relationship with the South Central Minnesota Multi-County HRA, owner of the Gaylord Mobile Home Park.
• Was informed that Small Cities Development applications will be submitted for Sibley County in 2010 and 2011. An application for western Sibley County, which would include Winthrop, Gibbon and New Auburn, is planning to be submitted in 2010, and an application for eastern Sibley County would be submitted in 2011.
• Discussed that the group would like a report about the strategy to use in an attempt to recruit another dentist to Gaylord.
• Discussed whether or not to change the EDA’s general fund checking account to a money market account in order to earn additional interest. Few checks are written out of the present account. More information will be provided at the August meeting.
