Rettmann and Herd on All-MRC team

Three members of the Sibley East baseball team were recently recognized by the Minnesota River Conference (MRC).

Wolverines Justin Rettmann and Lucas Herd were named to the all-conference team. Sibley East’s Max Eckberg received honorable mention.

A two year starter, Rettmann was one of the leading pitchers and hitters for the Wolverines during his senior campaign.

Rettmann finished the season with a .424 batting average. The first year all-conference selection collected 25 hits while knocking in 13 runs. Rettmann had an on-base percentage of .485 and a slugging percentage of .610. He also scored 16 runs on the season.

On the mound, Rettmann compiled a record of 2-4. He struckout 25 batters in 31-1/3 innings of work.

Rettmann was also a starter for the Sibley East football and basketball teams. He is the son of Craig and Connie Rettmann of Gaylord.

It was a breakout season for Herd who was one of the leading hitters in the Minnesota River Conference. This is the second straight year he has been named to the all-conference team.

The lefthanded swinging Herd led all Wolverines with a .500 batting average. The junior tallied 28 hits and 16 RBI’s. He had an on-base percentage of .554 and a slugging percentage of .694. The speedy Herd also scored a team best 22 runs for the Wolverines this season.

Herd is an infielder and a pitcher for Sibley East. In 24-1/3 innings of work this season, the righthander struckout 28 batters. He compiled a record of 1-2 and had an earned run average of 3.16.

Herd is also a starter for Sibley East’s football and basketball teams. He is the son of Mike and Kris Herd of Gaylord.

A senior, Eckberg anchored the catching position for Sibley East this season. He put together a career best offensive effort batting .439 with 18 hits and eleven RBI’s.

Eckberg scored nine times for Sibley East in 2010. He had an on -base percentage of .500 and a slugging percentage of .512.

Eckberg was also a standout for Sibley East’s football team. He is the son of Tom and Ann Eckberg of rural Gaylord.

Sibley East finished the baseball season with a 6-8 record in conference play. Holy Family won the MRC while Belle Plaine finished runnerup.
