Corn Planting

More warm, dry weather prevailed in Minnesota this past week, creating nearly ideal fieldwork conditions, according to the USDA, NASS, Minnesota Field Office. As of Sunday, April 25, temperatures statewide were more than 5 degrees above normal. As a result, corn planting and other spring fieldwork quickly advanced, and soybean planting was underway despite weekend showers. Corn planting advanced 50 percentage points to 63 percent, 29 points above last year and 47 points above the five-year average. Soybean planting began with 4 percent planted, compared to 2 percent last year and 1 percent average.
