Real estate tax collection down from year ago
December 3rd, 2009Sibley County collected 95.45% of the anticipated real estate tax as of November 18. The collection rate is slightly lower than one year ago, when 96.48% was collected, according to Mary Fisher, Sibley County treasurer.
Real estate tax collections totaled $19,241,55.83 of the anticipated $20,158,368.54.
$12,125,022.99 was collected on property located in the 17 townships of Sibley County.
Dryden Township achieved the highest tax collection rate at 99.45%.
Other township tax collection rates were:
Henderson – 98.74%; Kelso – 98.69%; Moltke – 98.63%; Grafton – 98.49%; Green Isle – 98.31%; New Auburn – 97.63%; Cornish – 96.59%; Severance – 96.55%; Sibley – 96.3%; Transit – 96.46%; Alfsborg – 96.06%; Bismarck – 95.73%; Washington Lake – 95.69%; Jessenland – 95.32%; Arlington – 95.23%; Faxon – 94%.
$7,116,488.84 of the anticipated $7,637,319.36 was collected on property located in the seven cities in Sibley County.
Arlington achieved the highest tax collection rate at 97.17%.
Other tax collection rates for the cities were:
Gibbon – 96.43%; Winthrop – 96.38%; Gaylord – 96.15%; New Auburn – 91.27%; Henderson – 87.23%; and Green Isle – 81.49%.
Fisher said that in Green Isle and Henderson, a developer has a large share of the unpaid taxes. For Green Isle, it is 68%, while Henderson, it is 63%, she explained.
As of November 18, real estate taxes were not paid on 650 parcels.
Sibley County collected $800,000 of its property tax collection through the direct payment plan, in which the taxes were automatically withdrawn from an account. Sibley County, so far, had received electronic payments totaling $108,000, with two-thirds of the amount from credit cards, Fisher said.
