Area contractors asked to help search for a building inspector

November 27th, 2009

If you are an area contractor who would like to see changes in services provided by the City’s building inspector, now is the time to voice your opinion.

Gaylord’s City Council, earlier this month, agreed to solicit Request for Proposals (RFPs) for building inspection services. Since 1998, the City has contracted with Metro West for building inspection services. Council members, last week, agreed to give Metro West the required 90-day notification that the contract will be terminated.

Seeking RFP’s for building inspection service was the suggestion of Mayor Doug Quast. Comparing rates was one reason Quast would like to consider alternatives. He has also been concerned because there have been a lot of issues with building inspectors over the last few years.

City Administrator Kevin McCann is in the process of developing RFP’s. A draft was distributed to council members last week.

Council member Brenda Pautsch said she would like to see response time as part of the RFP’s. “Contractors need to keep moving forward with their work,” Pautsch said.

It was the suggestion of council member Chad Muchow to have area contractors review the RFP’s. “At least give them the opportunity,” Muchow said.

McCann said the City encourages area contractors to review the RFP’s within the next two weeks. This will assist the City in making sure all pertinent information is included, McCann explained.

The City hopes to send out RFP’s in mid-December.
