Firm spends more time than budgeted on County plan
November 20th, 2009Although Sibley County has paid the contracted amount of $116,500 for its recently completed comprehensive plan, the company contracted for the work spent more hours on it than planned.
Darin Mielke, Sibley County Public Works Director, told the County Commissioners last week that the County received its last statement from contractor, SEH, in July. At that time the full amount of the contract was paid.
Mielke said, however, that Dan Jochum, the planner who worked on the project, recently informed him that with the extra hours put into the project, an extra $12,000 could be billed to the County.
County Commissioners directed County Attorney Dave Schauer to review the contract between SEH and Sibley County.
In other business, the County Commissioners:
• Were informed that Sibley County is scheduled for a spring 2010 Light Detection and Ranging (LIDAR) survey flight. This is a remote sensing system used to collect topographic data. Mielke said that the Land Management Information Center (LMIC) will cover the costs for the digital elevation data, however, if the County would like an aerial photo there would be an extra charge of $100-$150 per township section. Mielke will check to see if there is any funding available with other partners in this project.
• Authorized the County Engineer and County Attorney to sign two temporary easements for the CSAH 8 box culvert project just north of Lafayette. The project started last week.
• Learned that the 2009 bituminous overlay project is finished, and the “fine tune grading” on black dirt and seeding remains on the CSAH 2 grading project north of Gibbon.
• Will work with Beth Wilson, Information Services Director, to detect “spam” in their e-mail. A new fire wall with a spam filter has been installed, which requires each computer user to label the e-mail sent to them as “junk” or “spam,” and to allow the legitimate e-mails to be delivered.
• Set a public hearing on the Viewer’s Report and Final Report of the Engineer for an improvement to the westerly 370 feet of Branch 1 of CD 47. The hearing will be held Thursday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. in the Commissioners’ room of the courthouse.
