We are ever so thankful for our pool heaters!

July 23rd, 2009

Without them, we would never be able to have as many swimmers as we have! This summer has been very unusually windy and cool so far. But we continue to press on and open our doors for you! We just hope that the weather isn’t turning you blue!

Swimming lessons at the Gaylord Pool are continuing despite this summer’s unseasonably cool weather. It has been very challenging to decide whether or not we should give lessons. But so far, I have figured this much out: if we cancel lessons, there is a better than 50% chance that the sun will come out and it will warm up within an hour or so! Crazy Minnesota weather, huh?

If you are in our lessons right now, and you are ever wondering, please call our pool and listen to our message. It will tell you what we are doing daily as far as our schedule goes.

Just ahead on this coming Saturday, July 25th is another Super Saturday at our pool. An hour of our Lean-n-Mean workout will kick off the morning at 9 a.m., followed by two hours of lessons (10 a.m. and 11 am.) Adults, there are lessons just for you during the 11 o’clock hour. You should come and participate. It is never too late to start learning how to swim!

At noon, we will have time for Water Walking. As we do each Saturday, we will open to the public at 1 p.m. and continue until 9:30 p.m. Plan now to join us. This is the last weekend of July. Next Saturday, we move into the month of August already!

Now is the time to sign up to participate in this year’s Poolside Show, which will be held on Thursday night, August 6th! We are the first event for EGGstravaganza 2009 which will be August 6-7-8!

Kids, we need your participation. Let us know that you are interested and we will get you into our show, which the year is entitled, “Welcome to Gaylord…the land of 10,000 jocks!”

We are entering August, which is called “the no-holiday month” by some! That is so not true for all of us in Gaylord! We kick off this new month with the Sibley County Fair. The following week we celebrate Gaylord EGGstravaganza. Don’t forget about Gaylord’s very own triathalon that is now being planned for Sunday, August 16th. And then it will be time for baseball, fun, baseball, swimming, baseball, friends, baseball and making memories that will keep us going well after Labor Day 2009. Yup, Gaylord will be co-hosting the State Amateur Baseball Tournament starting on August 20th and continuing for the next three weekends! I can’t even imagine what our town will be like but I know that I will be here! You will too, so participate and join in all the fun!

Our Can Recycling wagon (a gift from the Gaylord Sertoma Club) was already called into action by the Gaylord Jaycees this past Saturday as they asked if they could tow it uptown for can recycling during their annual Jaycee Street Dance! We said yes to their request to use our wagon. We also invite all of you to bring your aluminum cans down to the pool and deposit them in our recycling wagon. Be a part of Sertoma’s “Can Do” attitude about our pool and its future! Together we can do whatever the Pool Task Force decides needs to be done to keep the ever-cool Gaylord Pool #1!!
