River Valley League tops DRS in All-Star game

The River Valley League defeated the DRS circuit 9-1 Friday in an amateur baseball All-Star game at New Prague.

River Valley took command of the contest with a six-run eighth inning. Run scoring hits by St. Peter’s Mike Enz, Prior Lake’s Jay Zweber, and Jordan’s Scott Hollingsworth highlighted the rally for River Valley.

River Valley outhit the DRS 8-5. Cullen Bahn of Jordan highlighted offensive action for the River Valley starts with a home run in the second inning.

Gaylord Islanders Collin Grams and Brad Walsh were selected to play for the River Valley All-Stars. Grams was unable to make the contest while Walsh sat out because of an injury.

A home run hitting contest preceded the All-Star game and the two circuits ended in an 8-8 tie. Eric Steinhoff of Veseli was the last batter for the DRS and he hit three homers to tie the derby. There were no home runs in a bat-off. Arlington A’s standout was one of five River Valley League stars who participated in the home run contest.
