With the economy not as strong this year, Gaylord’s Eggstravaganza Committee has taken a different approach to the city-wide celebration.
Becky Lindeman, chairperson of the Eggstravaganza Committee, said more local entertainment will be participating.
This year’s Eggstravaganza will be August 6-8. Buttons are now on sale. The $5 buttons will provide free admission to the Friday morning Eggceptional breakfast, coronation Saturday at Sibley East Junior High School, and the Saturday evening dance.
A band, “Lost Cause,” which features area residents, will be playing for the Saturday evening dance at the park. The dance is from 8 p.m. to midnight. The lead singer for the band is former Gaylord resident Brian Evans.
Saturday afternoon, another area band, “Depot Creek String Band” from the Le Sueur/Henderson area, will be performing at the park from 3 – 5 p.m.
An Old Time Baseball Game will be played at Walsh Field Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Alumni of the Gaylord Islanders will be playing against Arlington’s Old Time baseball team, known as the Arlington Greys. The same “old time” baseball rules will be followed like they were during the old time baseball game during Eggstravaganza last year.
This year’s featured entertainment will be Rich Wieber’s Bicycle Stunt Shows, which will perform in the park Saturday at 2, 3, 4, and 5 p.m. The show features amazing bicycle stunts, a high energy announcer, and fast-paced music. The show has produced more than 4,000 action sports events throughout the United States since 1989.
Another activity unique to this year’s celebration will be the opening of the 1951 time capsule from the former Gaylord Community Hospital. The time capsule will be opened in the Neisen’s parking lot Friday at 7:30 p.m. Plans are to add new items to it, and then rebury it.
Other Friday night activities will be the Fire Fighters Chicken Dinner, which will be held at a new location this year. It will be held at the Gaylord Fire Hall.
The classic car cruise will be held Friday evening. Registration begins at 5 p.m., and the cruise will leave downtown Gaylord at 6:45 p.m. The cruise will travel by Oak Terrace Health Care Center and through the City Park, head north on Highway 22 toward New Auburn, turn east on County Road 15, south on County Road 13, and at the four-way stop, turn west on County Road 12 and turn left on County Road 21 to return to Gaylord.
