When Langenbrunner came to Sibley East, he had retired from the Cloquet School District. He had served in educational administration for 20 years.
He served Sibley East for four years. “It was a new challenge,” Langenbrunner commented. “I was not aware of the financial difficulties. We were moving toward S.O.D. (statutory operating debt).” The priority became to pass an operating referendum, which occurred his first fall here.
“The greatest challenge is the economic times and to balance the budget,” Langenbrunner said. He commented that he was looking forward to working with the facilities, but finances became the priority.
“I will miss the employees very much. I have had good boards to work with and good chairpersons - Mark Brandt and Brian Asmus. They are leaders with passion that want to be there and are genuinely concerned about children.”
Highlights of his service at Sibley East include the addition of an elementary art specialist, the competency of staff for technology and reading, and working with the integration plan.
Langenbrunner said that the school district will need to look at the short and long term facility needs, and possibly look at a realignment or reconfiguration of grades. He believes that there could be financial savings in several areas.
His wife, Chris, is employed as a community education director at the Lake Superior School District. After his retirement, he plans to continue to remodel his lake home, spent time with his family, which include three adult sons and grandchildren. He also plans to watch his oldest son, Jamie, play professional hockey.
