Relay For Life

Thursday, June 25th, 2009
There were plenty of smiles and tears Friday at the Sibley County Relay for Life event held Friday in Gaylord. Approximately $37,000 in funds were raised for the American Cancer Society, similar to last year. The Pennies for Life drive raised another $150. Coordinators for the event reported that it was a “fun night” and the weather was “perfect.” Music, a silent auction and a luminary lighting ceremony were all part of the activities. Leading the survivor victory walk above is Michael Sprandel (dark shirt) who was the honorary chairperson for this year’s Relay for Life. More than 60 survivors circled the bases at Walsh Field.

County residents bring in 115 tons of tires

Thursday, June 25th, 2009
TIRES TIRES TIRES - Though constantly threatened by the weather, county residents lined up to dispose of their waste at the annual Tire, Appliance and Electronics Collection last Thursday. According to Al Christensen, director of the Tri-County Solid Waste Office, they collected 115 tons (six semi trailers) of tires, 18 tons of electronics, and 540 appliances. Christensen also said he saw a lot of big console TVs, which he speculated was a result of the digital switch over.
