No Child Left Indoors

May 14th, 2009
Sibley East Elementary Schools held special activities the past two weeks as part of the federal legislation, "No Child Left Indoors." Principal Mari Lu Martens explained that the legislation is encouraging environmental education, to have children go outdoors and connect with nature, rather than watching TV or playing video and computer games. Last Thursday, third graders built bird houses at the Green Isle Sportsmens Club. This project was possible with the help of the Conservation Partners of America and the Green Isle Sportsmens Club. Monday afternoon, the Gaylord campus offered a variety of activities including casting and fishing, bubble exploration, birding activities, planting, sing-a-long, "pop" art, rock painting, flower pot decorating, and bubble exploration. 248 people attended the event at Gaylord.
