Body found in burned car still unidentified
December 10th, 2008Sibley County Sheriff Bruce Ponath is waiting until the autopsy is completed to hold a news conference to identify the person burned in a vehicle near Green Isle.
The vehicle fire was reported in Washington Lake Township 4:20 a.m. Saturday. The fire occurred in a wooded area near the intersection of Sibley County Road 61 and 351st Avenue, about two miles east of Green Isle.
A neighbor apparently reported the vehicle fire. The vehicle was reportedly engulfed in flames when a deputy arrived with the Green Isle Fire Department. After the fire was extinguished, a body was found inside of the vehicle. The vehicle identification number was destroyed, but part of the license plate was found.
A news conference had been scheduled Monday afternoon, but was cancelled because the autopsy was not completed.
The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the fire victim was an adult male. No more information will be provided until the Anoka County Medical Examiner’s Office completes its autopsy.
