It was a family affair at the Dome Saturday

November 20th, 2008

All roads led to the Metrodome for several Gaylord residents Saturday as they travelled to the state football tournament to watch grandsons play.

Two cousins, with Gaylord ties, faced off in the Class AAA semifinal tilt between Glencoe-Silver Lake and Holy Family. Tyler Lang is a standout for the GSL Panthers while his cousin Tony Bauer is a leading defender for Holy Family.

Lang, a senior, is the son of Gaylord High School graduates Randy and Tammy Lang. He is the grandson of Richard and Sharon Pomplun, and Karen Lang, all of Gaylord.

In GSL’s 34-0 win over Holy Family Saturday, Lang tallied a team high eleven tackles.

Another GSL player with Gaylord ties is starting quarterback Kyler Anderson. He is the son of GHS grad Kari (Kuphal) Miller and the grandson of Karl and Sue Kuphal of Gaylord.

A sophomore, Anderson threw two touchdown passes in the Panthers’ semifinal win Saturday. He also rushed for 57 yards.

Glencoe-Silver Lake, two time defending Class AAA state champion, will face DeLaSalle in the finals. That game is scheduled for Saturday, November 29th at the Metrodome. Kickoff is set for noon.

Bauer was cited for his strong defensive play in the semifinal tilt against GSL. The senior back led Holy Family with 12 tackles, including two for a loss and one sack.

Bauer is the son of Gaylord High School graduates Randy and Cindy Bauer who live in Chaska. He is the grandson of Gaylord residents Dennis and Karen Grack, and Bob and Lolly Bauer.

Holy Family has become a perennial power in all sports in the Minnesota River Conference (MRC). Bauer also plays basketball for the Fire.

Another player who was in the Prep Bowl with Gaylord ties is Rosemount’s Nicholas Lutterman. The junior running back is the son of Gaylord High School graduates Bud and Karla Lutterman. He is the grandson of Gary and Mavis Lutterman, and Duane and Marlis Henke, all of Gaylord. Lutterman is the great grandson of Erna Henke, a resident at the Oak Terrace Health Care Center of Gaylord.

Rosemount fell to highly-touted Wayzata 34-10 in Class AAAAA semifinal action Saturday.
