Three Sibley East tennis players honored by MRC

Three Sibley East tennis players were recently honored by the Minnesota River Conference (MRC).

Wolverines Anna Dreismane and Kayla Trocke were named to the All-Conference team. Sibley East’s Ashley Thomes received honorable mention.

DREISMANE
A foreign exchange student, Dreismane proved to be more than a welcomed addition to the Sibley East tennis team this season.

Dreismane played #1 singles for the Lady Wolverines this season. She posted a 4-2 record against conference opponents and was 11-4 overall.

For postseason play, Dreismane teamed up with Trocke. The two Wolverines won a section doubles championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the Class A State Tennis Tournament.

Dreismane is the daughter of Dita and Leons Dreismane of Latvia. Her host parents are Joe and Beth DuFrane of Arlington.

TROCKE
It was a breakout season for Trocke. The junior led Sibley East in victories and earned a trip to the State Tennis Tournament.

At #2 singles, Trocke posted a perfect 6-0 record against conference opponents. She was 1-1 in the league at #1 singles.

Trocke started the 2008 campaign with nine straight victories and finished with a team best record of 16-2.

Trocke’s trip to state came in doubles action. She teammed up with Dreismane to win a section championship. The Sibley East tandem won one of two matches at State.

This is Trocke’s third season on the All-Conference tennis team. She is a four year varsity letterwinner for the Lady Wolverines.

Trocke is the daughter of Steve and Mary Trocke of Arlington.

Thomes was another one of Sibley East’s top singles players this season. The junior finished the season with a record of 9-16. She is the daughter of Bob and Gail Thomes of Arlington.

Coaches in the conference named Maddie Thiesse of Holy Family as the league’s “Most Valuable Player.”

Thiesse, a senior, played #1 singles for the Fire. She posted a perfect 8-0 record in conference action was was 12-3 overall.

“Coach of the Year” honors in the MRC this season will be shared by Brad Ernst of Jordan and Josh Dwyer of Holy Family.

Holy Family won the conference with a record of 8-0. Jordan, a team which finished last in the league a year ago, finished fourth with a 3-5 mark.
