Doug Quast’s bid for a third straight term as Gaylord’s Mayor was successful in Tuesday’s general election.
Quast defeated former Gaylord Mayor John Schwartz by winning nearly 55% of the votes. The incumbent received 530 votes while challenger Schwartz had the support of 430 voters.
“I appreciate everyone who supported me in the election,” said Quast. “I believe it shows that a majority of the people support progress in Gaylord. My hope is to continue making improvements to the City.”
There were exactly 1,000 votes cast in the City of Gaylord precinct. Among those votes were five write-ins for Mayor.
The voter turnout was larger than two years ago (841) when there were races for Mayor and City Council. More than 1,000 Gaylord residents went to the polls in 2004.
