Edna Baer - 85

November 5th, 2008

Edna Baer, age 85, of Canby, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at Sanford Canby Medical Center.

Funeral services were on Saturday, November 1, 2008 at Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby. The Rev. Bob Westad officiated. Burial was in Canby City Cemetery.

Edna Paula Zachow was born April 2, 1923 to Albert and Louise (Sylwester) Zachow in Gaylord. She was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gaylord. Edna attended Immanuel Lutheran Parochial School in Gaylord. After her schooling, she worked at Brown & Bigelow in St. Paul.

On June 8, 1947, she was married to Walter Baer in Gaylord. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Canby. After their marriage, Edna worked at Swift Co. in Marshall for many years until her retirement.

She was a member of Nicolai Lutheran Church in Canby. She enjoyed baking, flower gardening, going to Perkins, traveling, making photo albums and watching Polka dancing on TV, but most of all she loved spending time with her grandchildren.

Edna is lovingly remembered by her five children: Sharon Baer of Minnetonka; Michael (Joyce) Baer of Canby; Jerry Baer of Canby; Kathy (Doug) VanSanten of Brandon, SD; Bonnie (Paul) Olson of Porter; three grandchildren, Brittany VanSanten; Justin VanSanten; Heather Olson; four step-grandchildren, Aaron (Chrissi) Olson; Ryan (Tawny) Olson; Tanya Larson; LuWayne Olson; nine step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Helen (Bob) Winters of Richfield; Arena Maser of Forest Lake; a sister-in-law, Bernice Zachow of Gaylord; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter on September 22, 2005; infant daughter, Leona Baer; parents; and two brothers, Walter and Wilmer.
