LSH too much for Lady Wolverines
October 30th, 2008A thrilling game three win wasn’t enough to lead Sibley East’s volleyballers to an upset Tuesday. The Lady Wolverines had their season end with a 3-1 loss to top seed Le Sueur-Henderson in sub-section semifinal action at Mankato East High School.
It appeared that LSH would make quick work of the fifth-seeded Wolverines. The Giants routed Sibley East 25-7 in game one and 25-13 in the second set.
LSH would build four and five point leads in game three but the Wolverines did not go down without a fight. Behind the spiking of Lindsay Thomes, Ashley Martens, Hailey Becker and Angie Johnson, Sibley East kept pace with the Giants and eventually took a 22-20 lead. LSH would knot the game at 23-23 but back-to-back kills by Thomes and Martens gave SE the game.
Any momentum gained by Sibley East in game three was quickly taken away by LSH in the fourth tilt. The Giants jumped off to an 8-2 lead and never looked back. They won the match with a 25-7 victory.
LSH moves on to the finals to play the winner of Blue Earth Area and Maple River.
Sibley East finishes the season with a record of 16-12-1.
