Wayne Willard Dietz, of Woodbury, died Tuesday evening October 14, 2008 at Regions Hospital as a result of a cardiac arrest.

Funeral service was Sunday, Oct., 19, 2008, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Gaylord. A Celebration of Wayne’s life was held Monday, Oct. 20, at Woodbury High School.

Wayne was born July 22, 1953, in Gaylord, to Marion and Willard Dietz. He was a proud graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College in 1972. He married Carey Anne Griesel July 31, 1976. Wayne was a math teacher at Woodbury High School for over 30 years. He was also an assistant coach for football and basketball, and the head coach for baseball.

Wayne (Dietzer) lived every day to its fullest. He loved his family. They came first. He enjoyed being a teacher and a coach and always saw the best in his students and athletes. He loved sports, but his passion was golf. If you met him once you were his friend for life and he never forgot a name or face. He was best known for his quick smile and generous heart. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Julie) Dietz, Cottage Grove, Alissa Dietz, St. Paul, and Amberly (Chris) Williams, Cedar Rapids, IA; mother, Marion (Erwin) Pomplun; sister, Colleen Dietz; brother, Ronald (Kathy) Dietz, all of Gaylord.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willard Dietz; brother, Keith Dietz and sister, LuAnn Dietz.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to the Wayne Dietz College Scholarship Fund.
