Ernest Hardel - 89
October 23rd, 2008Ernest Hardel, age 89, of rural Gaylord, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at the Sibley Medical Center in Arlington, Minnesota. Funeral service was Saturday, October 18, 2008, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township, Sibley County. The Rev. Bill Nelsen officiated. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Ernest William Hardel was born on November 26, 1918, in Kelso Township, Sibley County. He was the son of William and Laura (Ayer) Hardel. Ernest was baptized as an infant at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Arlington, and was later confirmed in his faith as a youth. He received his education at country school.
On June 10, 1943, Ernest was united in marriage to Ruby Ostermann at Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township. The couple farmed in Sibley Township. Ernest and Ruby were blessed with two children and they shared 65 years of marriage.
Ernest was a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sibley Township, where he offered his services wherever needed and held various positions at his church.
Ernest enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking crafts. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Ernest is survived by his spouse, Ruby Hardel of rural Gaylord; children, Cheryl Bode and her husband, Steven of Cologne, and Darwin Hardel and his wife, Jean of Nicollet; grandchildren, Amy and Landon Bode, Wade and Jennifer Hardel, Lisa Bode and her special friend, Mark Kley, Douglas and Sandy Bode, Russell and Sarah Bode, and Timothy and Nicole Bode; great-grandchildren, Ava Bode, Ashley Betz, Trisha Betz, Shawn Bode, Dylan Bode, Ryan Bode, Jacob Bode, Austin Bode, Abbey Bode, Aiden Bode (Ernie was eagerly anticipating the birth of his newest great-grandchild who was due, October 15th.); sisters, Ruth Sander, Laura Renneke, and Ethel Mathwig; brother, William Hardel; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Myrtle Franke and her husband, Elmer, Joyce Bauer, and Helen Hardel; special friend, George Plaman; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Ernest was preceded in death by his parents, William and Laura Hardel; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Wilhelmina and Paul Ostermann; sisters, Bernice, Augusta, and Adella; brothers, Lawrence Hardel and Harold Hardel.
Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters, Amy Bode and Lisa Bode. Casket bearers were Wade Hardel, Landon Bode, Douglas Bode, Russell Bode, Timothy Bode, and George Plaman.
