October 16th, 2008Mae Schmidt, 75, of Gibbon, mother of Sibley County Recorder Kathy Dietz, died Thursday, October 2, 2008 at the St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.
Mae is survived by her husband, Roland Schmidt of Gibbon; a daughter and son-in-law, Kathy and Ronald Dietz of Gaylord; sons and daughters-in-law, Gregory and Rhonda Schmidt of Fergus Falls, Gary and Laura Schmidt of Birmingham, Alabama; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law, Marvin and Verna Bruns, Edwin and Elenor Bruns, all of Gibbon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and by her sisters, Delma Wendt and Elaine Reinhart.
Mae Hilda Bruns was born May 18, 1933 in Moltke Township, Sibley County to Walter and Olga (Drier) Bruns. She attended Gibbon schools and was a 1952 graduate of Gibbon High School.
On December 27, 1952, Mae was united in marriage to Roland Schmidt at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. They lived in Gibbon where they owned and operated Schmidt’s Cafe from 1967 to 1976. She then worked at ADC Communications in Fairfax until her retirement. Mae enjoyed baking, cooking, gardening, fishing and flowers and loved spending time with family. She was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon where she volunteered for many
Funeral service was held October 6, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Michael Gorte officiated.
