October 2nd, 2008

It was a fine finish to the regular season for Sibley East’s tennis team. The Lady Wolverines tripped host Jordan 4-3 Monday in a Minnesota River Conference (MRC) match.

“We didn’t play our best, but it was enough to win,” Sibley East coach Chad Bachman said. “It was a good way to end the regular season.”

Bachman said a Sibley East victory at #3 doubles was the deciding point in the match. Wolverines Mackenzie Timm and Katie Glisczinski, both sophomores, posted a win in that contest. They defeated a pair of Jordan seniors 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.

Sibley East’s other three points came in singles action. At #1 singles, foreign exchange student Anna Dreismane was a 6-2, 6-0 winner for the Wolverines.

Junior Kayle Trocke, who leads Sibley East in wins, added another victory at Jordan. She routed Jordan sophomore Kellie Schultz 6-0, 6-1 at #2 singles.

Courtney Nienaber also posted a win for the Wolverines in singles play. She won 6-4, 6-0 in the #4 singles match.

Suffering a setback in singles was SE’s Ashley Thomes. The junior fell to Jordan junior Caitie McBride 7-6, 6-4.

Falling in doubles play were Sibley East’s Becca Paine/Steph Schuneman (6-2, 6-1) and Mary Flores/Hannah Larson (6-4, 7-5).

Bachman highlighted the play of junior Courtney Nienaber. She posted a 6-4, 6-1 victory in the #3 singles match.

Sibley East posted comeback wins in a pair of matches. At #4 singles, Sibley East’s Mackenzie Timm dropped set one 6-4 but came back with wins of 6-3, 6-0. Wolverines Mary Flores and Hannah Larson won a three set match at #2 doubles. Scores from that tilt were 6-0, 4-6, 6-3.
