Miner finishes first in Monty Fun Run

A super season continued for Sibley East’s Hannah Miner on Thursday. She finished first in the annual Montgomery Fun Run held at the golf course in Montgomery.

Seven teams and more than 60 runners participated in the race.

Miner, a ninth-grader, captured top honors by clocking a time of 15:53 in the 4,000 meter race. That was 24 seconds shy of her school record mark.

“Hannah ran another great race and was rewarded with a first place finish,” Sibley East coach Mike Vrklan said. “She continues to work hard and is improving with each race.”

Rachel Ling, a sophomore captain for the Lady Wolverines, was the only other Sibley East runner in the varsity race. She placed 39th with a season best time of 19:00. That was 20 seconds faster than her previous best this season.

Sibley East’s Maren Miner and Sonja Sprandel competed in the Junior Varsity race at Montgomery. Miner, a seventh-grader, placed 49th. She clocked a season best time of 19:46. Sprandel, a ninth-grader, also posted a season best time. She finished the course in 23:42.

A busy week is on tap for the Lady Wolverines. They will run at Sleepy Eye on Thursday. Then on Saturday, Sibley East’s cross country teams will travel to Duluth for the annual Swain Invitational.
