City looking to get option back on land

August 28th, 2008

The City of Gaylord has began the process to reclaim its rights to property east of the stormwater pond.

More than five years ago, the City of Gaylord entered into an agreement with MeadowWood Builders which had planned housing developments on both sides of the stormwater pond.

The Jordan development firm agreed to continuously have two homes for sale or be building two homes on the land west of the stormwater pond, according to purchase agreement. A first option on land east of the pond was also part of that agreement.

According to City Administrator Kevin McCann, MeadowWood Builders currently has only one house for sale on the land west of the pond. There are four vacant lots in the development, he explained.

On numerous occasions, the City Council discussed the fact that MeadowWood Builders was not complying with the agreement but no action was ever taken.

Last week, council members passed a resolution declaring default of the purchasing agreement. It is the initial step in reclaiming rights to the property, McCann explained.

“This is long overdue,” said Gaylord Mayor Doug Quast.
