VFW baseball team falls short in District Tourney
July 31st, 2008The Arlington VFW baseball team’s bid for a state tournament berth fell short this past weekend at the District Tournament in Green Isle.
Arlington’s team, which features several Gaylord baseballers, began the tournament with convincing wins over Sleepy Eye and Fairmont.
Eagan then proved to be too solid for Arlington on Saturday, beating the local favorites 4-0 in game one of the final four.
Arlington was then eliminated from the tournament following an 11-4 setback to Mankato.
Eagan went on to win the District Tournament defeating Mankato on Sunday in the championship round. Eagan now advances to the state tournament to be played this weekend in Perham.
Arlington meanwhile finishes the season with a record of 8-5.
Members of the Arlington team included: Eric Schultz, Nathan Henke, Matt Pichelmann, Alex Reichenbach, Lucas Herd, Tim Young, McKoy Rodning, Jesse Schwirtz, Ben Melsha, Justin Rettmann, Erik Goetsch, Thomas Fenske, Trevor Schrupp, Max Eckberg, Zach Borchert, Michael Bullert and Justin Luskey.
The Arlington team was coached by Paul Pichelmann and Zach Herd.
