Ag teacher granted leave of absence to teach college

Sibley East’s agricultural teacher, who has received statewide recognition for rebuilding the school’s FFA program, was granted a one year leave of absence by the Board of Education Monday.

Jeff Eppen was granted an unpaid leave of absence for the 2008-2009 school year. According to Superintendent John Langenbrunner, Eppen has accepted a position at South Central College in North Mankato.

Eppen has taught at Sibley East for six years.

In other business, the Board of Education:

• Hired Michael Haller as a social studies teacher; Jacquelyn Hazelwood as a business teacher; Shannon Hruska as Spanish teacher and head speech coach; Charity Wuetherich and Patricia ZumBerge as English as a Second Language teachers; Mike Feterl as the Arlington technology coordinator, and Stephanie Schultz as the ninth grade volleyball coach.

• Accepted the resignation of Chelsey Drew, Kindergarten teacher at Gaylord.
