Pioske, Pilacinski honored by Journal and KDUZ/KARP
July 10th, 2008Postseason honors continue to pile up for Sibley East baseballers. Wolverines Brett Pioske and Nate Pilacinski were recently honored by an area newspaper and a radio station.
Pioske and Pilacinski were named to the All-New Ulm Journal Team. The KDUZ/KARP radio station also chose the two Sibley East standouts for its all-area squad.
PIOSKE
One of the best catchers in school history, Pioske capped his outstanding high school career in fine fashion. He batted .536 this season for the Wolverines. Among his 30 hits were eight doubles, four triples and four home runs.
Pioske also led Sibley East this season with 35 RBI’s and 17 runs scored. He posted a slugging percentage of 1.036 and an on-base percentage of .638.
In four years of varsity baseball, Pioske carried a batting average of .420 The righthanded slugger had nearly 100 hits including 23 doubles and six home runs. Pioske scored 64 runs in his career and he stole 15 bases.
Pioske, who will try to make the baseball team at Minnesota State University, Mankato this fall, has received several postseason honors. He was named the “Most Valuable Player” in a highly talented Minnesota River Conference. Pioske was also named to the St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State Second Team.
PILACINSKI
Junior Nate Pilacinski emerged as a leader for Sibley East’s baseballers this season. He batted .469 from the leadoff position with 23 RBI’s and 23 runs scored.
Pilacinski was among team leaders with seven doubles and three triples during the 2008 campaign. He had an on-base percentage of .569.
Defense was also a strength for Pilacinski who was a shortstop and a pitcher. He had a record of 3-1 on the mound, with one save. Pilacinski struckout 35 and had an ERA of 3.09.
Pilacinski is a two-time All-Conference selection for Sibley East.
