Commissioners approve expansion of poultry barns
July 10th, 2008Sibley County Commissioners, Tuesday, gave the “green light” to the expansion of M.G. Waldbaum Company’s existing poultry operation in Dryden Township, about one and a half miles east of Gaylord.
Upon the recommendation of Sibley County’s Planning and Zoning Commission, the Board of Commissioners approved the expansion of the poultry operation from 2,295 animal units to 2,634 animal units.
The R & J Farm currently has nine confinement barns that are 56 ft. x 300 ft. in size that house 765,000 layer pullets. After the expansion is completed, there will be eight confinement barns that are 56 ft. x 300 ft., and one barn that will be 56 ft. x 340 ft. After the expansion is completed, there will be 878,000 layer pullets on the farm site.
This is the first expansion at the site since 1994, according to Jeff Majeski, Sibley County’s environmental services director.
In other business, the Board of Commissioners:
• Approved a conditional use permit for Jason and Susan Boelter, Henderson, for the temporary placement of a mobile home on five acres in Henderson Township, about one mile from Henderson.
• Approved a conditional use permit for Joe Wersal, Winthrop, to construct a second home on an existing farm site in Alfsborg Township, just south of Winthrop.
• Renewed permits for Ted Grego to operate a dog kennel in New Auburn Township, and for Dave and Tammy Gallentine and Pat and Cheryl Morrison to operate a horse stable in Faxon Township.
• Renewed a permit for Shawn Kluver to operate a soil roaster to burn petroleum-contaminated soil in Faxon Township. County zoning officials said they were impressed with the improvements at the site since one year ago.
• Renewed mobile home permits for Glen Black of Moltke Township, Mike Kokesch of Grafton Township, Mike Meyer of Moltke Township, Paul Spletzer of Jessenland Township, and Duane Anderson of Alfsborg Township.
