River Valley’s Class “B” teams topple Islanders
July 3rd, 2008It was a tough start and a rough finish for Gaylord’s amateur baseballers in games against Class “B” opponents last week. The Islanders gave up seven early runs in a loss to Chaska. A day later, Gaylord surrendered nine runs in the seventh and eighth innings and lost to Shakopee.

Chaska batters flexed their muscle last Tuesday. The highly-touted Cubs cranked out 13 hits and defeated Gaylord 10-0 in a seven inning River Valley League tilt at Chaska.
Chaska followed up a two run first inning with five runs in the second frame. The Cubs then finished the Islanders off early by scoring three runs in the seventh stanza.
Josh Gasow paced Gaylord’s five hit attack with two singles.
Darin Hendley pitched for the Islanders. He yielded eight earned runs, struckout one and walked three.
Gaylord 5 Shakopee 11
A late surge by Shakopee proved to be the difference Wednesday as Gaylord fell 11-5 to the Indians in league play at Walsh Field.
Mike Walsh’s Islanders took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning when Josh Gasow’s double plated Brad Walsh.
But, Shakopee would dominate play the rest of the way. The Indians took command by scoring five runs on five singles in the seventh inning. Shakopee plated four more runs in the eighth frame.
Gasow and Jordan Berg led Gaylord in the loss with two hits apiece.
Jeff Allerson hurled the first seven innings for the Islanders and was tagged with the mound loss. He yielded nine runs on ten hits, struckout four and walked four.
