Legion team nipped 4-3 by Lester Prairie

June 19th, 2008

A three run rally and a fantastic defensive play enabled Lester Prairie to defeat Sibley East on Monday in Legion baseball action at Arlington.

Sibley East, with two outs, had runners at first and third base in its final at-bat. Justin Rettmann then hit a blooper to short right field. But, after spinning around a few times, the Lester Prairie second baseman made an over-the-shoulder catch to end the game.

“Our guys were running on the pitch and both would have likely scored if the ball dropped,” Sibley East coach Doug Flieth said. “The second baseman made a fantastic catch.”

Sibley East took a 2-1 lead in the third inning when Todd Pauly’s single scored Nate Pilacinski.

Lester Prairie answered with three runs in the fourth inning. Three singles, a double and a walk fueled that rally.

Rettmann doubled and scored in the sixth inning but Sibley East would strand the tying run at third base.

Pilacinski was tagged with the mound loss. He gave up four runs on eight hits.

Sibley East, 1-1, will play at Brownton on Thursday at Holy Family on Monday, June 23rd.
