Hearing for stormwater re-route July 22

June 19th, 2008

Re-directing drainage from 41 acres in Gaylord, from Lake Titloe to the stormwater pond in East Gaylord, will require a public hearing.

Sibley County’s Board of Commissioners, which also acts as the drainage authority, set the public hearing for July 22.

A petition, which was submitted by the City of Gaylord, requests an amendment of the use of Branch 3 of Lateral C of County Ditch 55 as an outlet for its municipal drainage system. It is proposed to re-direct water from the Lincoln Avenue/Division Street area in Gaylord from Lake Titloe.

Justin Black of SEH, Gaylord’s engineer, admitted that the city should have come to the county board some time ago with this petition. Construction of the project is already underway, he explained. “We looked at County Ditch 55 as a whole and not as sub-watershed,” he commented.

Studies by SEH show that the additional water will have minimal effect on the ditch system.

Sibley County Environmental Services Director Jeff Majeski and LeRoy Messner were appointed as project viewers. They were also directed to find out whether or not the city paid an outlet charge when the stormwater pond was constructed in 1995.
