Booster Club meeting is Sunday in Arlington
June 19th, 2008Support and promote all activities. That is the goal of the Sibley East Wolverine Booster Club set to be in operation for the 2008-2009 school year.
A Booster Club membership meeting is planned for Sunday, June 22nd (7:00 p.m.) at Four Seasons Park in Arlington.
Anyone interested in being involved with the Booster Club is encouraged to attend Sunday’s meeting, according to school board members Anne Karl. Memberships will also be accepted that evening, she explained.
A not-for-profit organization, the Sibley East Booster Club would support and promote all activities at the Sibley East Senior and Junior High schools. According to Karl, the hope is that the club is an organization of parents, teachers, administration, coaches and community members who support athletics and extra-curricular activities (that pay an activity fee).
The club would make an effort to enhance school spirit among the three communities as well as providing moral and financial support, Karl explained. Another goal of the Booster Club is to get all of the school’s fundraising activity “under one roof,” according to Karl.
Discussions about establishing a booster club began late last year by Sibley East’s Extra-Curricular Activities Committee. That group has since bowed out of Booster Club efforts as the club needs to be a separate entity from the school, according to Karl.
Approximately 60 people attended a Booster Club introductory meeting held in December. Another meeting was held earlier this month and ideas on how the club would operate were discussed.
According to Karl, the club “is a go” and hopes are to have it in operation, under a set of by-laws, by the upcoming school year. She said the goal is to have an “official” board of directors in place soon. In the meantime, membership, marketing and apparel committees are being established, Karl explained.
A booster club for the Glencoe-Silver Lake High School continues to be used as a model, according to Karl. According to the by-laws of that club, the purpose is to:
• Recognize participants in all high school activities;
• Improve communication between the school and the communities;
• Strive for greater attendance at high school activities;
• Promote good sportsmanship of fans as well as athletes;
• Create a more positive attitude toward high school activities;
According to Karl, organizers will be at community events this summer promoting the Sibley East Booster Club and accepting memberships.
Family and business memberships range from $25 to $100. All business members joining by the end of this month will be listed on a school pocket calendar to be printed this fall.
