Tire, appliance, electronics collection is June 19

June 12th, 2008

Sibley County will hold its annual collection for tires, appliances and electronics Thursday, June 19. The collection will be held at the Sibley County Fairgrounds in Arlington from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The public is invited to participate. Proof of Sibley County residency is required.

The location of the collection changed to Arlington this year after being held at the Sibley County Highway Department in Gaylord for many years. Al Christensen of the Tri-County Solid Waste Office explained that the tire recycler, Greenman Technologies of Savage, will not let their drivers go over on hours any more for a work week. If the collection had been held on a Saturday, the collection would have been without the tire grapple and semis needed to remove the 80-100 tons of tires Sibley County residents bring to the collection annually, he explained.

Appliances must be empty to be accepted. No gas or ammonia refrigerators or small appliances, such as vacuums and toasters, will be accepted. It will cost $6 to dispose of appliances.

Charges to dispose of the tires depend on the size. Car/light truck tires will cost $1, semi/small implement - $3, and large implement - $5. Charges are double if the tires are on the rims.

Electronics accepted include TV, computer equipment, VCR/CD/DVD, stereo, copier, cell phone, boom box, fax machine, etc. It will cost $5 to dispose of electronics and TVs 19 inches or larger. Items smaller than 19 inches will cost $3. There is a $4 charge to dispose of hard drives, keyboard and mouse.
