Thies places 14th in State meet’s 3200 meters

Andrew Thies, Sibley East’s top distance runner, finished 14th Friday in the Class “A” State Track Meet’s 3200 meter run at Hamline University in St. Paul.

Thies, a freshman, was competing in his first state meet. He clocked a time of 10:24, five seconds behind the 13th place finisher.

Thies was one of three Junior High athletes in the 3200 meter field which included 17 runners. Byron Schuldt, an eighth-grader from Nevis, placed 7th with a time of 9:56.

Winona Cotter senior Donny Wasinger solidified his spot as one of the State’s top distance runners. He defended his state title in the 3200 meters with a winning time of 9:22. Wasinger also won the State’s 1600 meter race.
