Interim Veterans Service Officer assumes duties
June 12th, 2008Retired Nicollet County Veterans Service Officer Hank Sadler assumed duties Monday as Sibley County’s interim Veterans Service Officer. He is replacing Steve Schow, who retired May 30.
Sadler retired Oct. 1, 2007 after 23 years as the Nicollet County Veterans Service Officer/emergency management director. He lives in rural Madison Lake.
Prior to his position with Nicollet County, Sadler served 22 years in the Air Force in medics. He served in Korea, Japan, Spain, Germany, Libya, along with Texas and New York. He also was a recruiter in Mankato for five years.
For the first couple weeks in the interim position, Sadler said he plans to work five days/week. After that time, he will primarily work Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. He is going to contact the Brown County Veterans Service Officer to see if he will take calls for Sibley County on Thursdays and Fridays.
Sadler is active in the Disabled American Veterans organization. He is the chair for state veterans legislation. He is a member of the Nicollet American Legion and the Mankato VFW. He is also a former president of the Minnesota County Veterans Service Officers.
He and his wife, Gretchen, a dental hygienist, have two adult daughters who live in Italy and Ames, IA. They also have five grandchildren. His wife is retired from the Regional Treatment Center and in the past, she filled in part-time at the Sneltjes Dental Clinic in Gaylord.
He is a volunteer courier for bone marrow.
