County may have federal EDA grant opportunities
June 12th, 2008Sibley County may have an opportunity for federal Economic Development Authority grants.
Troy Bonkowske, Gaylord’s EDA executive director, informed EDA members Monday night that Region Nine wants to submit a grant application in Sibley County next year.
Bonkowske said that among Region Nine counties, Sibley County is the only one labeled “distressed” in the federal EDA’s eyes. The EDA’s criteria is based on income per capita and the unemployment rate in the county, Bonkowske said.
The average amount of the federal EDA grants is $500,000, he said. The grants are often used toward infrastructure, he explained.
