Volunteers needed for rain garden planting Friday

June 5th, 2008

Volunteers are needed Friday morning to help plant the rain garden near the Gaylord Pool.

Volunteers will be needed from 6 a.m. until noon, or until the project is completed. Eileen Brandt and the Gaylord Pool staff invite you to participate. Any amount of time – one hour or more – would be appreciated, Brandt said.

In case of inclement weather, planting will take place Saturday at the same time. For updates on the project, please call the Gaylord Pool at 237-2266.

The rain garden is being named the “Sarah Sunshine Rain Garden,” in memory of Sarah Stresemann of Winthrop, who died in October 2006 at the age of five. She died of head injuries she sustained when the swingset she was playing on tipped over. Stresemann took swimming lessons at the Gaylord Pool.

More than 600 blooming perennials with the specialty color of pink will be planted. Pink was Stresemann’s favorite color.
