Volunteers begin planting rain gardens in City Park

May 29th, 2008
More than a dozen volunteers, under the direction of Paulette Nitz and Dianne Uecker, began planting rain gardens in the Gaylord City Park Friday. Work began in the rain garden across from the white park shelter. Other rain gardens will be located east of the tennis court and between Walsh Field and the Gaylord Pool. A rain garden is a planted depression that is designed to absorb rainwater runoff from impervious urban areas. This reduces surface runoff by allowing stormwater to soak into the ground, instead of having it flow into storm drains. Rain routed to gardens is filtered naturally through plants, removing nutrients and pollutants.
