Public hearing on proposed development June 4
May 29th, 2008A public hearing regarding a proposed housing development west of the stormwater pond has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 4th. The meeting will be held at the Fire Hall beginning at 5:30 p.m..
According to City Administrator Kevin McCann, Meadow Wood Builders is proposing a Planned Unit Development (PUD) on a 15-acre parcel of land west of the pond.
A previous proposed development for the property proved controversial. Unable to sell homes initially planned for the property, the developer proposed a plat revision which included smaller lot sizes and smaller homes. Council members believed the proposed lots and homes were too small and rejected the proposal.
McCann reported Tuesday that Meadow Wood Builders has now “tweaked” its plans for the development. He believes council members are, “for the most part,” in favor of the most recent proposal.
According to McCann, the average lot sizes being proposed are 55-feet to 60-feet wide. He said the smaller lot sizes will enable the developer to use infrastructure more efficiently.
The Planned Unit Development is part of the Building Better Neighborhoods Program, according to McCann. He said a similar program was used in a St. Peter development. McCann believes low interest loans would be available to those purchasing homes in the development.
A conditional use permit is required for the proposed development, according to McCann. The City initially planned a public hearing for the conditional use permit application on May 21st. This meeting had to be rescheduled for June 4th because the developer did not submit the required documents prior to the meeting, McCann explained.
