City seeks extension on building lease

March 27th, 2008

City officials are seeking a 2-3 year lease extension on the former clinic building which currently houses Gaylord’s City Administration offices.

In September, City staff moved into offices in the former clinic building (on Fourth Street) as work began on the new library. Initially, the City was going to swap facilities and move its offices into the library building. But, rising cost estimates to remodel that building prompted council members to explore other options for City offices.

The City originally signed a six month lease (@ $500/month) with a six month option on the clinic building. That extension option, which runs through mid-September, has now been exercised, according to City Administrator Kevin McCann. He also reported that the owners continue to market the building and potential buyers recently toured the facility.

Mayor Doug Quast suggested that the City approach the owners of the building and propose a 2-3 year lease extension. That should give the City enough time to establish a permanent home, Quast explained.
